Phantom Limbs (2017)
for 2 clarinets and 2 percussionists (13')
program note
Phantom Limbs is about nostalgia and a reflection on growing up in rural America. My father was a water well and shot hole driller, and our mobile home was situated directly next to the shop where he and my grandfather did their metalwork and made repairs. Looking back, the most powerful memories of my childhood are sonic ones: the oddly tranquil coexistence of those calm, wide open spaces with the intrusive and oppressive clamor of heavy machinery.
